Section of a blue kyanite with indication of the pleochroism. The band at 600 nm, responsible for the blue color, originates in a charge transfer between Fe2+ ions and Fe 3+ or Ti4+ . Another band at 800 nm, although not well resolved is also present due to crystal field transition of Fe2+. |
