Dioptase Spectrum

Thin section of a dioptase mono-crystal. The material is only slightly pleochroic with a change in intensity and position of the absorption band with polarizer direction as shown in the spectrum below. The absorption band is produced by crystal field transition in the Cu2+ ions. |
