Aegirine  spectrum

Small fragment of an aegirine crystal from Zomba-Malawi. Spectrum below. Aegirine is a AlFe3+ pyroxene. Fe3+ ion gives only weak forbidden transitions. The replacement of AlFe3+ by CaFe2+ in aegirine is common. Possibly, the broad peak in the spectrum would be the consequence of such replacement.
