Gabbro from Scotland. Thin section.

                            Raman analysis of this Rock.

  

   Thin section of a Gabbro. Crossed polar view. Raman analysis identified: forsterite, labradorite, diopside, hastingsite and pargasite. The black areas are a mixture of olivine and the dark mineral magnetite.

 

 

       Plane polarized view. Olivine is present between the black areas.  The hornblende is in the green brown regions. The plagioclase labradorite (grey in the above picture) is a major constituent of this section.

      The clinopyroxene (diopside) with high color birefringence is the brownish high relief crystals in the picture below.
