NIR, IR and Raman spectra of polyethylene

NIR spectrum of a polyethylene plastic bag. The 2 peaks at 2300-2350 nm are characteristic of polyethylene.

Raman spectrum of a clear polyethylene bag. The CH band (red curves) exhibits the 2 peaks at 2900 cm-1 also found in the NIR spectrum above. Note the presence of the second order spectrum at 4400 cm-1.

Raman spectrum of a blue polyethylene bag. Compared to the spectrum above, extra peaks are present in the blue bag due to the dye.

Low resolution infrared spectrum of the clear polyethylene bag. Deconvolution with Fityk shows the 2 main peaks at 2850-2900 cm-1 with a small additional peak at 2650 cm-1.
