Pyroxene chondrule in NW904 meteorite. The
section is close to 0.1 mm thickness as can be seen on the second
picture below taken between crossed polars. The pyroxene chondrule shows
first to second order birefringence colors. Spectra below were
recorded on the chondrule marked by the arrow. The intense absorption of
ortho pyroxene at 920 nm is well developed. The strong pleochroism of
the pyroxene is not visible because it is only present above 800 nm. It
could be photographed with a NIR camera. |
